Dr. Darryl Phillips is from Clinton, Tennessee, and he loves being part of the Knoxville community. He was inspired to go into pediatric dentistry after working with children in the UT pediatric dentistry clinic during dental school. It was around this time that Dr. Ken Carruth (one of Dr. Darryl‘s favorite dental school professors) saw Dr. Darryl’s talent for working with children. It was his encouragement that led Dr. Darryl to the career he loves.
After graduating from the University of Tennessee, he attended The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis. After graduation, Dr. Darryl chose to continue his education, completing an additional two-year residency program in pediatric dentistry at UT Memphis, during which he received extensive clinical, emergency, and surgical training in order to become a specialist. Shortly after finishing his training, Dr. Darryl returned to East Tennessee to establish Children’s Dentistry of Knoxville in August 2006.
When he is not helping children in the office, Dr. Darryl enjoys water-skiing and surfing on Norris Lake in the summer, and he doesn’t miss an opportunity to snow ski. Dr. Darryl and his wife are involved in the community and were part of the core group of people that helped found Shoreline church in Knoxville over a decade ago. Together, they enjoy spending time with family, friends, and travelling to new places anytime they get the chance!
“My goal is to establish a great relationship with my patients, so that they can see that going to the dentist is not something to be afraid of,” Dr. Darryl shares. “I love being able to have a positive impact on the way children feel about going to the dentist now and into adulthood.”
